Banc of California's story began in 1941 with the founding of the Rohr Employees Federal Credit Union in Chula Vista, California. Originally established to serve the employees of the Rohr Aircraft plant, the institution grew steadily over the decades, evolving to meet the changing needs of its members. In 1995, it was renamed Pacific Trust Federal Credit Union, and by 2000, it had converted to a federal savings bank known as Pacific Trust Bank. This marked the beginning of a significant transformation, leading to the formation of First PacTrust Bancorp in 2002. The modern era of the bank took shape in 2013, when First PacTrust Bancorp acquired The Private Bank of California and rebrand the combined entity as Banc of California. This strategic move positioned the company as a premier relationship-based business bank dedicated to empowering California's entrepreneurs and businesses. Under the leadership of CEO Jared Wolff, the bank has continued to expand its footprint and capabilities, notably acquiring Pacific Mercantile Bank in 2021 and completing a transformational merger with PacWest Bancorp in 2023. Today, Banc of California stands as a leading financial institution, providing innovative banking and treasury management solutions to small, middle-market, and venture-backed businesses across California and beyond.
