About

In 1931, amidst the economic turmoil of the Great Depression, Jonathan Bell Lovelace founded Capital Group in Los Angeles with a visionary belief: that long-term research and a commitment to integrity could yield superior investment results. Unlike the speculative trading that characterized the era, Lovelace built his firm on the bedrock of fundamental analysis and a dedication to doing what was right for clients. This philosophy of prioritizing the investor's interest above all else became the company's guiding star and has remained unchanged for over nine decades. As the firm grew, it pioneered a unique approach to investment management known as The Capital System. Introduced in 1958, this multi-manager system divides portfolios among several investment professionals, allowing for a diversity of thought and reducing the risk associated with relying on a single manager. This innovation, coupled with an early and aggressive expansion into global markets—opening an office in Geneva as early as 1962—cemented Capital Group's reputation as a forward-thinking global powerhouse. Today, Capital Group is one of the world's oldest and largest investment management organizations, managing trillions of dollars in assets while remaining privately held and steadfastly committed to its original mission of improving people's lives through successful investing.
