About

ecobee was founded in 2007 by Stuart Lombard with the mission to improve everyday life while creating a more sustainable world. The initial spark for the company came from Lombard's own experience attempting to program his thermostat to conserve energy while his family was on vacation, only to return to a surprisingly cold house. This frustration highlighted the need for a smarter, more user-friendly solution for home energy management. Recognizing that traditional programmable thermostats were often difficult to use, Lombard set out to create a device that could intelligently manage home heating and cooling with minimal impact on lifestyle. Assembling a team of experts, ecobee launched the world's first Wi-Fi connected smart thermostat in 2009. Our customers often face the challenge of balancing home comfort with the desire to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills. Many find that conventional thermostats don't adequately address temperature inconsistencies throughout their homes or adapt to their unique schedules and preferences. This is why ecobee developed smart thermostats with remote sensors to deliver the right temperature in the rooms that matter most. Our devices learn a home's unique energy profile and consider local weather conditions to optimize heating and cooling. Beyond thermostats, ecobee has expanded its offerings to include smart cameras, smart light switches, contact sensors, and smart doorbell cameras, creating a comprehensive suite of smart home solutions. These products are designed to work together seamlessly, providing convenience, security, and continued energy conservation. We empower our customers to understand and manage their energy usage effectively, helping them save money and reduce their environmental footprint without sacrificing comfort. To date, ecobee's technology has helped customers save a significant amount of energy, equivalent to taking major cities off the grid for a year.
