The journey of Fixico began with a simple, relatable moment of frustration. In 2014, co-founder Derk Roodhuyzen de Vries accidentally scratched his mother's car. His subsequent search for a reliable and transparent body repair shop proved to be a surprisingly difficult and opaque process. This personal inconvenience sparked a brilliant idea: what if there was a better, more streamlined way to handle car repairs? Teaming up with Mark van Laar, the duo set out to build a solution. They launched Fixico in Amsterdam with a clear mission: to create a digital marketplace that would connect car owners with a network of certified body repair shops. The initial concept was an app that allowed users to upload photos of their vehicle's damage and receive multiple quotes, empowering them to compare and choose the best option with ease. What started as a consumer-facing platform quickly demonstrated its potential to revolutionize the entire car repair ecosystem. The founders soon realized that the core concept was highly applicable to the business-to-business sector. Fleet operators, insurance companies, and rental agencies faced the same challenges of managing repairs on a much larger scale. This realization marked a pivotal shift in Fixico's strategy.
