The current iteration of Master of Malt was significantly shaped when Justin Petszaft, whose family had a connection to a physical Master of Malt shop in Tunbridge Wells, along with two childhood friends, Tom McGuinness and Ben Ellefsen, relaunched the website. This relaunch involved coding a new platform from scratch, as existing solutions did not meet their ambitious requirements. Over the years, Master of Malt has grown from a small bottle shop into one of the largest online drinks retailers. However, in 2024, the company returned to 100% founder ownership under Justin Petszaft. This move allows Atom Group, the parent company which includes Master of Malt, Master of Malt Trade, Maverick Drinks, and Atom Brands, to operate as a fully independent entity. The company remains founder-led and is focused on creating a comprehensive ecosystem within the premium spirits value chain, aiming to support and collaborate with others in the industry.
