About
We are Unitarian Universalists. We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history, and spirituality, but we are united by shared values rather than creed or dogma. The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is a liberal religious association of Unitarian Universalist congregations. Our mission is to equip congregations for health and vitality, to support and train lay and professional leaders, and to grow Unitarian Universalism. We were formed in 1961 through the consolidation of the American Unitarian Association (established in 1825) and the Universalist Church of America (founded in 1793). As an organization, we support more than 1,000 congregations across the United States and Canada. We advocate for social justice, climate action, and human rights. Our seven principles guide us: the inherent worth and dignity of every person, justice and compassion in human relations, acceptance of one another, free and responsible search for truth and meaning, the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process, the goal of world community with peace and justice, and respect for the interdependent web of existence.
