Student Discipline Officer (SDO)

School: Woodlands
Contract Period: 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2027

Working Hours

During School Terms

  • Mondays to Fridays: 7:00am to 4:00pm, including a 30-minute lunch break

  • Total working hours: 47.5 hours per week

  • No service required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

June and December School Holidays

  • Deployment will be based on the school’s operational requirements

  • Working hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm, including a 30-minute lunch break

  • Actual days worked during these holidays will be compensated separately

Job Description

The Student Discipline Officer will support student well-being, discipline and welfare while promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing school environment. The officer will work closely with students, school staff, families and external agencies to support at-risk students through positive discipline, early intervention and restorative practices.

The officer will report to the Head of Department (Student Development) and School Leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Morning, Recess and Lunch Supervision

  • Engage students during morning arrival and build positive relationships.

  • Observe students and promptly report behavioural or emotional concerns.

  • Maintain orderliness in the canteen, open court, corridors and common areas.

  • Supervise students actively during recess and lunch periods.

  • Intervene early to prevent or de-escalate student conflicts.

  • Document and report incidents to the relevant Year Head on the same day.

Discipline Investigations and Case Management

  • Assist with investigations into student discipline cases.

  • Review CCTV footage and reconstruct incident timelines.

  • Interview students and obtain clear, age-appropriate statements.

  • Document the time, location, persons involved and sequence of events.

  • Prepare factual, timely and well-organised incident reports.

  • Record actions taken, consequences applied and required follow-up measures.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records.

Restorative Practices

  • Conduct restorative conversations with students involved in discipline incidents.

  • Facilitate restorative dialogues, circles or written agreements.

  • Help students reflect on their behaviour, repair relationships and rebuild trust.

  • Document agreed actions and monitor students’ progress.

  • Apply restorative language and approaches in daily student interactions.

At-Risk Student Support

  • Identify, support and monitor students with behavioural, emotional, social or attendance concerns.

  • Work with Year Heads, Form Teachers, School Counsellors and Student Welfare Officers.

  • Assist in developing and implementing appropriate intervention plans.

  • Conduct home visits where appropriate to support student welfare and discipline.

  • Maintain confidential case notes and student engagement records.

  • Support reporting and evaluation of student development outcomes.

After-School Programmes

  • Supervise students attending After-School Detention.

  • Maintain orderliness and ensure students use their detention time purposefully.

  • Maintain attendance records and follow up with parents or guardians regarding absences.

  • Support After-School Intervention programmes for identified students.

  • Observe students and provide structured feedback to teachers.

  • Work with Form Teachers and Year Heads to ensure continuity of support.

Patrol and General Support

  • Conduct regular patrols around the school to maintain positive discipline.

  • Patrol outside the school from 1:30pm to 2:00pm to support student safety and behaviour.

  • Maintain the classrooms and facilities used for after-school programmes.

  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Head of Department and School Leaders.

Requirements

  • Must be registered with the Ministry of Education and remain registered throughout the contract.

  • Former MOE Primary School teacher or possess relevant qualifications in Education, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field.

  • At least two years of experience in student welfare, social services, community work or a primary school setting.

  • School-based student development or pastoral care experience is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of child protection, basic counselling and case management is preferred.

  • Familiarity with MOE frameworks and school operations is an advantage.

  • Able to review CCTV footage, conduct interviews and prepare factual incident reports.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, de-escalation and conflict-management skills.

  • Able to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.

  • Able to engage positively with students, families and school staff.

  • Caring yet firm, fair and consistent when managing student behaviour.

  • Passionate about supporting at-risk students.

  • Emotionally resilient, proactive, adaptable and able to maintain confidentiality.
