Data steward role managing and overseeing data assets, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance while supporting strategic decisions at the South African Reserve Bank.
Brief description
The main purpose of this position is to act as a data steward and support the information management function in managing and overseeing data and information assets to provide the business with high-quality and consistently accessible data and information.
Detailed description
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
Prepare and provide accurate and reliable data and information in support of strategic decisions.
Acquire new data sources to enable effective departmental decision-making.
Create and maintain consistent metadata in a manner that allows for clear and unambiguous data definitions and meets legislative, quality and security requirements.
Create and maintain business metadata for published data sources to ensure they are easily discoverable and meaningful to information consumers.
Prepare relevant data for appropriate consumers in the SARB Group and relevant stakeholders, and monitor published data sources for usage, relevance and quality feedback.
Ensure that assigned data elements are current, do not conflict with other data elements in the metadata registry and are used consistently across various systems.
Proactively identify and resolve data integrity and quality issues.
Stay current with developments in all functional areas relevant to information management and ensure their appropriate application.
Propose and implement refinements and continuous improvements to systems, tools, methods and processes in own area.
Job requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have:
a bachelor’s degree in either information technology, computer science or mathematics, or an equivalent NQF 7 qualification in a related field;
five to eight years’ experience in any of the relevant data management disciplines, such as data governance, metadata management, master data management, business intelligence and data development; and
relevant certifications, such as Certified Data Steward, will be an advantage.
