Supply Chain Strategy Overview:
Toyota’s Supply Chain Strategy (SCS) team sits at North American Headquarters in Plano, TX and encompasses both Production Strategy and Innovation. Production Strategy is responsible for leading cross-functional studies to further optimize the supply chain in mass production of Toyota and Lexus vehicles throughout North America. The team is split into Vehicle and Powertrain and owns make versus buy, capacity, allocation, USMCA compliance, and in-line accessory strategy. Innovation is responsible for end-to-end supply chain initiatives, such as high-level cost reduction and improved speed of operations, not tied directly to a specific model production.
Locations:
- Plano, TX
What you’ll be doing
Throughout your internship, you will gain exposure to a variety of ongoing projects and responsibilities in Production Strategy, including -but not limited to- the following:
- Make versus buy studies: determine which parts of a given vehicle model are produced in-house and which are outsourced. If in-house, study will determine which North American Manufacturing Center (NAMC) will produce them, balancing key considerations of capacity, logistics, quality, speed, and cost.
- Capacity setting: calculate maximum capacity of vehicle assembly lines in North America, including leading studies for any capacity adjustments that come through takt time changes, new model introductions, ratio restrictions, etc. These studies include comparing incremental operating profit to incremental investment, understanding payback of proposed scenarios to determine optimal path forward.
- In-line accessories: set direction for installation location of optional vehicle content, i.e. in-line vs. post-production vs. dealership. Lead all relevant stakeholders in study to gather and analyze all inputs of logistics, packaging, quality, quantity, space, labor, etc. to calculate breakeven point of accessories and recommend production direction.
- Process optimization: continually modernize and enhance existing team processes, deliverables, and dashboards. This includes adept use of data visualization tools (Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI), Microsoft Excel, and enterprise AI tools (Chat GPT, Claude, etc.). Propose and implement process improvement through Toyota Business Practice (TBP) and Ji Kotei Kanketsu (JKK).
What you bring:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have reliable transportation
- Preferred GPA 3.5 and above
