Your role as a Language Interpreter is to facilitate clear and respectful communication, ensuring that language is never a barrier to access or equity.
- Provide professional consecutive interpretation services in Kinyarwanda-English, ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive communication.
- Build strong relationships with families, creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Adapt to schedule changes and on-call duties, promptly responding to interpretation requests.
- Facilitate seamless communication between families, students, and staff, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
- Assist with translating essential documents, ensuring equal access to information.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and events to offer interpretation support, promoting inclusivity.
- Collaborate with staff to address language-related challenges and create an inclusive learning environment.
- Stay updated on district policies and procedures, ensuring accurate information dissemination to families.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpretation practices at all times.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance interpretation skills and cultural awareness.
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is mandatory; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
- Exceptional consecutive interpretation skills with a proven track record of accurate and culturally appropriate communication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for inclusivity and a desire to help others.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
- Cultural sensitivity and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse school community.
- Previous experience in interpretation or a related field is preferred but not essential.
- Willingness to undergo background checks and adhere to district policies and procedures.
- Flexibility to work on-call, during school hours, and as needed to meet the district's interpretation requirements.
- Basic computer skills for documentation, record-keeping, and efficient communication.
