7-8 Math Teacher: Short-Term Substitute
Location: North Canaan Elementary School - North Canaan, CT
Duration: Temporary assignment anticipated to last up to 60 school days.

North Canaan Elementary School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Short-Term Mathematics Teacher for grades 7–8. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based mathematics instruction while supporting student growth in academic and social-emotional skills.

Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Math Teacher will facilitate student success by implementing district-approved curriculum, delivering instruction aligned to NGSS standards, differentiating to meet individual student needs, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree required (Master's preferred)
• Valid Connecticut teaching certification appropriate to the assignment preferred.
• Experience or coursework in math content strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Common Core, inquiry-based learning, and differentiated instruction, and classroom management
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
• Proficiency with instructional technology
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and deomonstrate professional judgment
• Must meet all applicable Connecticut substitute teaching and District employment requirements, including successful completion of required background checks, DCF checks, employment verification, and other pre-employment screening requirements.
• Reliable transportation required
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

Essential Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging 7–8 mathematics instruction and content-area literacy to support mathematical thinking
• Implement required support plans (IEPs, 504s, intervention plans, etc.)
• Foster a student-centered, inquiry-based classroom environment
• Integrate and model social-emotional learning and self-advocacy skills
• Assess student performance and use data to guide instruction
• Participate in MTSS, data, team, staff, attendance, and climate meetings
• Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress and classroom learning
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to ensure continuity of instruction
• Attend professional learning aligned with district initiatives

• Perform other duties as assigned by the school or district

Compensation/Benefits:

• $183.00 per day
• This short-term substitute position is not eligible for District-provided health insurance benefits

Requirements:

• Must pass federal and local background checks.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the start date.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
