A- Software Engineer (DevOps)
Description
The Software Engineer (DevOps) is a hands on engineering role within Imaging Data Science and Delivery, responsible for supporting DevOps capabilities, source code management consolidation, and automation across engineering teams.
This role focuses primarily on GitHub migration and consolidation, CI/CD enablement, and ongoing automation. The engineer works collaboratively with various technical teams to standardize DevOps practices, reduce manual effort, and improve delivery efficiency across imaging technology workflows.
Key Responsibilities
DevOps Engineering & Automation
- Support and enhance DevOps practices across Imaging Data Science and Delivery teams, with emphasis on automation, repeatability, and reliability.
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable automated build, validation, packaging, and controlled promotion to target environments.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline engineering workflows, including repository operations, build steps, artifact preparation, and pipeline efficiency improvements.
- Apply Git best practices (branching strategies, repository hygiene, lightweight/sparse checkouts) to support scalable development and efficient pipeline execution.
- Implement end to end automation for environment, tooling, or workflow changes using DevOps pipelines and automation patterns to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
GitHub Migration & Consolidation (Primary Focus)
- Assist the migration and consolidation of source code management into GitHub, including planning, repository structure recommendations, and hands on execution support.
- Support migration from multiple legacy SCM platforms (e.g., SVN) into GitHub based workflows, enabling consistent branching and improved CI/CD integration.
- Contribute to standardizing development tooling and engineering practices as part of the GitHub consolidation initiative.
- Partner with stakeholders to define and implement approaches for handling large files, artifacts, and binaries during and after migration.
- Assist with retiring and consolidating legacy SCM systems and tooling, supporting simplification and long term maintainability.
- Support adoption of GitHub tooling, including GitHub Copilot (where applicable), through documentation, good practices, and developer enablement.
Cloud, Security & Compliance
- Support DevOps pipelines and tooling operating within Microsoft Azure–hosted environments.
- Follow established security, change control, and compliance practices relevant to DevOps tooling and automation.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with engineering, architecture, and IT teams to enable DevOps workflows and tooling.
- Contribute to DevOps and automation roadmaps, including future enhancements to CI/CD, GitHub, and developer productivity tooling.
Domain & Ways of Working
- Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments with structured change and release processes.
- Strong collaboration skills across engineering and IT teams.
- Comfortable operating in an environment with evolving requirements, focused on automation and continuous improvement.
