A Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the development of large applications, data conversions, etc. along with their design, test, and implementation, from requirements through to L3. This role is for an expert-level software engineer, who is a major contributor to the Software Engineer Center of Excellence, providing thought leadership and "raising the bar" for the standard of software being created in the department. Also provide some mentoring for Associate Software Engineers & Software Engineers as necessary.

  1. Participates in the analysis and design of solutions
  2. Documents requirements, analyses, designs, and work estimates, at a software level.
  3. Implements software that meets the design requirements, works correctly, with coding that is clear, testable, and efficient. Unit tests should be built into the software.
  4. Works closely with test and deployment groups to ensure high quality solutions that are easy to test & deploy.
  5. Analyzes and resolves program defects & unexpected behavior in their own code and code developed by others.
  6. Participates in regular design & code reviews
  7. Works with mentors to increase skills
  8. Reports progress and risks accurately
  9. Completes documentation as required, including the logging of hours against projects
  10. Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and skills
  11. Follows the LTCG IT & SDLC processes.
  12. Works on more complex tasks.
  13. Experience of Agile and/or Waterfall environments
  14. Participates in peer code reviews / inspections, bringing knowledge of techniques such as: reuse, performance, interoperability, defensive programing, security, safety, etc.
  15. Serves as a role model for other developers and peers, mentoring less experienced engineers.
  16. Contributes to the continuous improvement of the department.
  17. Brings innovation, contributes beyond assigned tasks, encourages morale.
  18. Able to assist with data conversion and system implementation plans, e.g. setting up new clients.
  19. Obtains industry-leading technical certifications, where appropriate.
  20. Able to accurately estimate software projects.
  21. Works under general supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
  22. Certified in Software Engineering

  23. Major contributor to LTCG's Software Engineering Center of Excellence, with a focus on leading the continuous improvement work.

  24. Role model and mentor for other software engineers.

  25. Provides technical advice and consultation for problems requiring advanced techniques.

  26. Conducts a full range of programming tasks including program design, program coding, debugging and documentation for a variety of general applications programs including data manipulation, input and output routines reflecting a variety of equipment configurations.

  27. Manages full software development lifecycle including testing, implementation, and auditing.

  28. Partners with QA to prepare and conduct comprehensive system and programming tests.

  29. Works under minimal supervision on complex projects and may assist less experienced peers.

  30. Has wide latitude for independent judgment.
