JSSA is a health and social wellness agency supporting our neighbors in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC. Our work is built on a commitment to healing our corner of the world. We are a growing agency and as such have an opening for an Assistant Controller, reporting to our Controller. This position is a key role in our accounting department – ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting the Controller with audits, month-end close, and regulatory compliance.
Starting salary range: $125,000
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
Work with accounting team to ensure reconciliations are correct and entries are accurate
Analyze revenue and expense actual vs budget variances, make corrections and recommendations as needed
Review grants and contract billings each month that are prepared by other staff
Analyze and true up grant and contract expenses in the general ledger
Manage staff salary allocations and review payroll general ledger entry for accuracy
In conjunction with the CFO, actively participate in the agency’s annual budget preparation by meeting with Directors, developing calculations and analyzing expenses
Prepare month-end management reports
Prepare cost rates for fringe benefits and overhead
Prepare JSSA homecare cost analysis
Assist accounting team with year-end close and audit preparation
Provide training as needed regarding finance related policies
Supervise grants finance management staff
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA strongly preferred, but not required
Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience and 5 years of supervisory experience
Strong knowledge in operational accounting, technical accounting, and financial reporting (GAAP)
Strong understanding of grant and contract reporting as well as Federal Single audit requirements
Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems and communicate effectively with non-finance stakeholders
Exceptional knowledge of MS Office, specifically MS Excel, aptitude to learn new software with ease
Ethical judgment and commitment to accuracy and transparency
Self-motivated with a high level of flexibility and a strong work ethic to get the job done
Experience with systems such as Sage Intacct, Dayforce, Bill.com is beneficial, however not a prerequisite
Begins with 5 days working from the office and over time may become hybrid with 3 days working from the office
