Accounting & Finance Assistant Manager

Discussion

Purpose of the Role

The Accounting & Finance Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the company’s accounting records across all systems.

The role ensures that ERP and in-house finance applications are consistently up to date, with transactions posted promptly, accurately, and in line with the underlying documentation. A key responsibility is the regular reconciliation of client accounts, close monitoring of balances and ageing, and proactive identification of overdue or at-risk amounts before they become collection issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all accounting entries across the ERP and in-house finance applications are posted promptly and kept fully up to date, with no backlog of unrecorded or unmatched transactions.

  • Act as a super-user for ERP and in-house finance applications, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and properly coded.

  • Reconcile client accounts regularly, at least weekly, matching invoices, payments, and credit notes against ledger balances.

  • Closely monitor client balances and ageing and proactively flag overdue or at-risk accounts.

  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies directly with clients and the Sales team.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, ensuring all figures are properly reconciled before submission.

  • Review supporting documentation for expenses, invoices, and payments and flag discrepancies or missing approvals.

  • Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany balances, and key ledger accounts on a regular basis.

  • Support cash flow tracking and working capital monitoring.

  • Assist with VAT and tax filings and ensure compliance with local statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.

  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial processes, accounting records, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA, CA, CMA) is a plus.

  • 10+ years of relevant accounting and finance experience, ideally within a manufacturing, trading, industrial, or other high-volume environment.

  • Strong hands-on experience with ERP systems and in-house or customized finance applications, with the ability to quickly learn new platforms.

  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.

  • Proven experience reconciling accounts involving a high volume of client transactions.

  • Strong understanding of client account reconciliation, ageing, collections, working capital, and financial controls.

  • Highly analytical, meticulous, and detail-oriented, with the confidence to challenge numbers rather than simply record them.

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a disciplined approach to maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.

  • Proactive and reliable, with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues before they escalate.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Willing to relocate to Ghana and work from the plant site.
