About Overhead Solutions Group

Overhead Solutions Group is a Forbes-recognized CPA firm serving nonprofit organizations, grant-funded entities, and mission-driven businesses. We help our clients strengthen their accounting systems, prepare for audits, meet grant and compliance requirements, and produce financial information they can use.

We are a small firm, so the work here is not narrow. People own their projects, work directly with clients, and see how a whole engagement fits together.

We hire and promote against five values: Excellence, Accountability, Integrity, Preparedness, and Impact.

The Role
We're looking for an accounting or finance student who wants hands-on bookkeeping and audit experience. You'll spend most of your time on-site with clients in and around Waukegan. You'll organize their financial records, reconcile accounts, and help get their books ready for close and audit. You'll report to [Supervisor name] and check in regularly with our accounting team.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to client sites, mostly in Waukegan and Lake County
  • Collect, scan, and upload receipts, invoices, and statements
  • Attach supporting documents to transactions in the accounting system
  • Find missing documentation and follow up with clients to get it
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Research and resolve reconciliation differences
  • Review transactions for proper documentation and coding
  • Help with month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare schedules and documents requested by auditors
  • Keep electronic accounting and audit files organized
  • Keep the OSG team updated on the status of your work

What You'll Learn

  • QuickBooks Online and other cloud accounting systems
  • Bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Month-end and year-end close
  • Documentation standards and audit preparation
  • Nonprofit and small business accounting
  • Working directly with clients

This internship is a good fit if you're aiming for a staff accountant, audit associate, or client accounting role after graduation.

What You Need

  • Currently pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • Completed or currently taking introductory accounting
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Comfortable handling confidential financial records
  • Able to work independently and follow set procedures
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Basic Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • Reliable transportation to client sites in the Waukegan and Chicago area

Nice to Have

  • Bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative experience
  • QuickBooks Online experience
  • Familiarity with bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Interest in nonprofit accounting, audit, or public accounting
