The Role
We're looking for an accounting or finance student who wants hands-on bookkeeping and audit experience. You'll spend most of your time on-site with clients in and around Waukegan. You'll organize their financial records, reconcile accounts, and help get their books ready for close and audit. You'll report to [Supervisor name] and check in regularly with our accounting team.
What You'll Do
- Travel to client sites, mostly in Waukegan and Lake County
- Collect, scan, and upload receipts, invoices, and statements
- Attach supporting documents to transactions in the accounting system
- Find missing documentation and follow up with clients to get it
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts
- Research and resolve reconciliation differences
- Review transactions for proper documentation and coding
- Help with month-end and year-end close
- Prepare schedules and documents requested by auditors
- Keep electronic accounting and audit files organized
- Keep the OSG team updated on the status of your work

What You Need
- Currently pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
- Completed or currently taking introductory accounting
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Comfortable handling confidential financial records
- Able to work independently and follow set procedures
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Basic Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Reliable transportation to client sites in the Waukegan and Chicago area
Nice to Have
- Bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative experience
- QuickBooks Online experience
- Familiarity with bank and credit card reconciliations
- Interest in nonprofit accounting, audit, or public accounting
