Zynx Health, part of the Hearst Health network, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to serve as the business-unit accounting lead and primary liaison with Hearst Health Group Accounting. In this role, the Accounting Manager is accountable for the timely review and resolution of Zynx close and reporting matters, reviews accounting work prepared by the centralized accounting organization and external partners, and directly owns designated business-unit accounting and compliance activities. Key areas include ASC 606 revenue recognition, capitalized software, sales and use tax, customer aging and collections, SOX compliance, and technical accounting documentation.
The role offers the opportunity to lead accounting for a healthcare software business, partner with senior finance and operational leaders, and modernize processes through systems, automation, and responsible use of AI-enabled tools.
This position will be 100% remote.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Close and Financial Reporting
Lead assigned components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policy.
Review and approve journal entries, account analyses, balance-sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by Hearst Health Group Accounting; provide actionable feedback and ensure timely resolution of issues.
Own the completeness and accuracy of assigned balance-sheet accounts, including aging analysis, resolution of reconciling items, variance explanations, and complete supporting documentation.
Coordinate close deliverables, intercompany matters, reporting requirements, and accounting-policy questions with Hearst Health Group Accounting.
Technical and Operational Accounting
Lead Zynx's ASC 606 accounting, including contract review, performance-obligation analysis, transaction-price allocation, revenue schedules, deferred revenue, and documented conclusions.
Oversee accounting for capitalized software development costs, including capitalization eligibility, project stage, start and stop dates, cost tracking, amortization, and coordination with Product and Engineering.
Research and document accounting conclusions for new or unusual transactions and support implementation of new accounting standards and policy changes.
Tax, Receivables, and Compliance
Oversee Zynx's sales and use tax processes and Avalara administration, including system configuration, integrations, taxability decisions, exemption documentation, reconciliations, regulatory updates, and adviser coordination.
Monitor customer aging, collection activity, disputes, cash application, and credit-loss reserve considerations; escalate material risks appropriately.
Perform and review assigned SOX controls, maintain audit-ready evidence, support testing, identify control gaps, and coordinate remediation.
Maintain accounting compliance calendars and support internal reviews, external audits, statutory requests, and group reporting requirements.
Technical Leadership, Partnership, and Transformation
Provide technical guidance, review accounting output, and establish clear documentation standards for cross-functional financial workflows.
Partner across Finance, Sales, Legal, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering to resolve accounting and operational matters.
Champion continuous improvement, automation, and responsible use of AI-enabled accounting tools to improve accuracy, accelerate analysis, strengthen documentation, and reduce manual work.
Lead or support accounting and billing-system initiatives through requirements, testing, data validation, cutover, reconciliation, and post-implementation stabilization.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree a plus.
- Prior experience reviewing complex accounting work, financial schedules, and close processes.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial close, balance-sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with ASC 606 and accounting for capitalized software development costs.
- Experience performing or reviewing SOX controls and supporting internal or external audits.
- Software, SaaS, healthcare technology, subscription, multi-entity, or public accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in a centralized, shared-service, or similarly matrixed accounting environment preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP, billing, reconciliation, close-management, revenue, and reporting systems.
- Strong judgment, organization, communication, and ability to manage competing deadlines in a changing environment.
- Experience with Avalara administration, tax-engine integrations, taxability, and reconciliations preferred.
- Experience with customer aging, collections, cash application, and credit-loss or bad-debt analysis preferred.
- Billing, ERP, or revenue-system migration experience preferred.

The reasonable estimate, if hired in Los Angeles, is $120,000 - $145,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location. If this role is open to candidates outside of location, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
