We are seeking an Accounting Manager, Manufacturing Plant to support the day-to-day financial operations of our Whitby manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for overseeing financial accounting activities, preparing and reviewing financial statements, supporting month-end close, managing inventory-related accounting activities, and leading a small accounting team. The Accounting Manager serves as a key business partner to plant leadership, helping identify trends, financial risks, and operational opportunities while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. While budgeting, forecasting, costing, and capital investment analysis remain centralized with the broader Finance team, this role plays a critical part in supporting plant financial performance and operational excellence.
Location Requirement: This position is based at our Whitby, Ontario facility and requires on-site presence 5 days per week.
What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2 direct reports while fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the Whitby plant, including transactional accounting activities and financial reporting.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Analyze plant financial results and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with plant leadership to review operating results and provide financial insights on key business issues such as material usage, inventory, and plant
- performance.
- Oversee inventory-related accounting activities, including reconciliations, valuation support, and inventory accuracy reviews.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reporting packages to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests and maintain strong internal controls.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day finance resource for the plant accounting team, providing direction and leadership.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA designation or CPA progression preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Prior supervisory or people leadership experience is required.
- Experience managing, mentoring, or developing direct reports.
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and month-end close processes.
- Experience with transactional accounting and day-to-day accounting operations.
- Familiarity with inventory accounting, inventory reconciliations, and manufacturing financial processes.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction and build relationships across operations and finance teams.
