ACCOUNTING MANAGER
REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT

📍 Location: Dallas, TX
🏢 Department: Accounting
🕒 Employment Type: Full-Time | Hybrid (3 days in-office/2 days remote)

Position Overview:

We are excited to welcome an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the accounting team for a growing real estate investment and development company with a diverse portfolio of development projects and operating real estate assets.

This hybrid role (three days in-office, two days remote) reports to the Vice President of Accounting and leads a team of experienced accountants responsible for full-cycle development, partnership and joint venture, and property-level accounting across Provident’s national $7.5 billion real estate portfolio. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and developing the team, overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of financial reporting and accounting practices. Serving as the primary point of oversight and review, this role provides direction, day-to-day technical guidance, and accountability while ensuring departmental deadlines and reporting requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of accountants, providing direction, coaching, and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Allocate and monitor workloads to ensure responsibilities are appropriately assigned and deadlines are met.
  • Take an active part in interviewing, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
  • Establish cross-training and backup coverage to ensure continuity of accounting operations.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and professional development across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, reporting processes, and departmental efficiency.
Accounting Review & Quality Control
  • Serve as the first level of review for the accounting team's work before submission to the Vice President of Accounting, including draw and capital call packages, financial statements and supporting schedules, and tax packages.
  • Identify errors, inconsistencies, and areas requiring improvement, providing feedback and guidance to team members to strengthen accuracy, consistency, and accountability and reduce recurring review comments.

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Work with third-party property management companies for operating assets on accounting onboarding and setup, provide ongoing accounting guidance, review reporting packages, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor departmental deadlines and reporting requirements, proactively addressing delays, outstanding issues, and competing priorities.
  • Review the accounting team's work, including financial statements, lender reporting and debt covenant compliance, and investor reporting.
  • Partner with internal departments, including development, finance, asset management, and tax to resolve accounting matters and support reporting requirements.
Partnership, Development & Transaction Accounting
  • Manage development accounting activities, including project cost tracking, capitalization of costs, construction draws, and project transitions into operations.
  • Manage partnership and joint venture accounting across multiple entities, including maintaining partner capital accounts, coordinating capital calls, and calculating partner distributions.
  • Review accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancings.
  • Coordinate partnership tax reporting schedules and supporting documentation with external tax preparers.
  • Review relevant partnership agreements, organizational documents, and loan agreements to ensure accounting and reporting appropriately reflect applicable requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required; CPA a plus but not required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and develop an accounting team, delegate responsibilities, establish accountability, manage competing priorities, and ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Real estate accounting experience required — ideally within real estate development, commercial real estate, private equity real estate, and/or public accounting with real estate clients.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; strong experience with Yardi required.
  • Development accounting experience, including draw packages, job cost tracking, and capitalization of development costs.
  • Strong understanding of property-level accounting, general ledger management, and lender and investor financial reporting and compliance.
  • Experience with partnership and joint venture accounting, including partner capital accounts, contributions, distributions, and familiarity with waterfall structures.
  • Strong understanding of accrual and tax-basis accounting.
