Accounting Manager

Accounting Manager – Construction Company

Compensation: $120,000-$135,000 Plus Bonus

A well-established award-winning Inland Empire construction company, operating as both a General Contractor and Specialty Contractor, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations. This is a hands-on role for a construction accounting professional who will own the month-end close, job costing, and WIP reporting process while partnering closely with project managers and company leadership to ensure accurate financial and project reporting across the organization.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Lead and perform the monthly financial close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain accounting procedures, internal controls, and month-end close processes.

Job Costing & WIP

  • Prepare and review monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Maintain accurate job costing for all construction projects.
  • Reconcile job cost reports to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
  • Review project budgets, committed costs, subcontract costs, labor and material costs, change orders, estimated costs to complete, and project profitability.

Project Accounting & Billing

  • Work directly with project managers to review job performance, cost projections, and WIP adjustments.
  • Monitor project billing, accounts receivable, retainage, underbillings, and overbillings.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, vendor costs, and project-related accounting activity for proper coding and job allocation.

General Accounting Oversight

  • Oversee or support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting.
  • Coordinate year-end accounting, external CPA requests, audits, tax reporting, banking, and surety reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and effective use of Trimble Viewpoint Spectrum for general ledger, job costing, project reporting, and related accounting functions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including significant experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Experience with general contractor and/or specialty contractor accounting is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full month-end close process on a timely basis as required by management and third-party users of the financial statements reports.
  • Experience with Trimble Viewpoint Spectrum strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project billing, retainage, subcontractor accounting, and construction-related accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Strong general ledger and financial reporting skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to analyze project financial information and identify cost overruns, margin changes, coding issues, and other discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, field operations, executives, and outside professionals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
