Accounting Section Head
Job summary
The accounting section head is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the accounting team at Linah Group, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all financial processes.
This role oversees key functions within the accounting cycle—including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting—while reviewing team outputs, maintaining effective internal controls, and supporting audit and closing activities.
The accounting section head also acts as a key link between the accounting manager and the team, ensuring proper task allocation, performance monitoring, and continuous process improvement.
Role duties & responsibilities
- Ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate presentation.
- Ensure the completeness, existence, and accuracy of the documentation.
- Ensure that the assets, liabilities, equities, revenues, and expenditures are properly stated and accounted for in the general ledger.
- Set preventive and detection controls to avoid and detect any cash embezzlement and misrepresentation of the financial records.
- Lead and manage a team of eight professionals, including selection/hiring, objective setting, performance management, coaching/development, and training.
- Review all financial reports, including profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows, as well as the year-end financial reports.
- Review the quarterly accruals and assess the necessity for forming provisions.
- Ensure segregation of duties (SOD) by quarterly reviewing the team tasks to ensure that the person who books the accounting transaction is different from the one who reviews/posts the accounting transaction, different from the one who has custody of cash and cheques, and different from the one who reconciles the accounts.
- Be responsible for all accounting activities’ compliance with company policies and procedures and statutory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations and timely submission of tax returns.
- Work with external auditors during audits and reviews to ensure full cooperation from accounting staff and compliance with all qualified requests.
Key performance indicators
- Completion of 100% of the suppliers’ and customers’ invoices related to the month end.
- Accurate recording of the suppliers’ and customers’ invoices with 100% accuracy.
- Preparing statement of profit and loss only after five working days from the following month.
- Preparing and reviewing all the monthly analysis/breakdowns for balance sheet significant accounts and ensuring completeness and existence of closing balances with 100% accuracy.
- Ensure matching of 100% of all purchase orders versus the suppliers’ invoices and goods receiving notes before posting journal entries.
- Prepare monthly reconciliation to ensure that there is no outstanding difference between accounts payable and accounts receivable subledgers and the general ledger before closing the accounting period.
- Daily coaching of the team and providing needed support to ensure proper understanding and accurate application of their duties through training and official meetings at least once per week.
Requirements
Educational background:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CMA or MBA is preferred.
- IFRS knowledge is a plus.
Job requirements:
- Seven to ten years of solid accounting and finance experience in a holding company or FMCG.
- Strong knowledge and practice of accounting principles and standards.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (MS Dynamics 365 is a plus).
- A minimum of three years in a supervisory role is required.
