Western Home Communities is expanding our Accounting Department and is excited to add an Accounting Specialist to our growing Finance team. This is a full-time, in-person position that offers a diverse workload and the opportunity to play an important role in our organization's financial operations. We're looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, managing multiple priorities, and taking ownership of their work. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, works well independently, and is committed to producing accurate, high-quality financial information.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries while ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance general ledger accounts to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Review and analyze financial statements, balance sheet accounts, and supporting schedules to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Perform cash transactions and reconciliations while maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Review Accounts Payable invoices for accurate general ledger coding and ensure expenses are assigned to the appropriate accounts.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting, annual audit preparation, cost reports, and budgeting activities.
  • Analyze financial activity, research variances, and recommend solutions to resolve discrepancies.
  • Utilize Workday and other accounting software to process cash, general ledger, and financial transactions.
  • Successfully manage multiple priorities and a diverse workload while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Work independently with strong initiative while collaborating effectively with the Finance team and other departments.

Requirements:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, balancing general ledger accounts, reconciling cash and bank accounts, and analyzing financial statements.
  • Experience reviewing general ledger coding and ensuring the accuracy of Accounts Payable transactions.
  • Ability to analyze accounting data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues through effective problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize work, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Workday experience preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, vendors, and leadership.
