Position Summary: The Activity Assistant works in accordance with established policies and procedures, under instruction from the Director of Resident Services. This position implements a varied activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Atlantic Shores residents. This position reports to the Activities Supervisor.

Essential Duties: Follows the Resident Services departmental established policies, procedures, and organizational plan for Atlantic Shores activity program.

  • Keeps records and reports resident responses to the activity program.
  • Assists in the movement of residents to and from activity areas.
  • Leads discussion and special interest groups, games and other activities with patients such as creative crafts, bingo, gardening, parties, rhythm band, sing-along, decorating, drama activities and movies. Encourages and instructs individuals in recreation skills and activities.
  • Works special events for residents, including those on holidays, evenings, and weekends. Must be flexible in scheduling availability to include being assigned to evenings, holidays, and weekend hours.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; or six months to one-year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to act in a resident’s best interest and make responsible choices and decisions.
  • Ability to lead activities and motivate residents and fellow team members for their involvement in the planned social events and activities.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to facilitate small group presentations.
  • Organization and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Windows, Outlook, and Excel) and the ability to learn new applications.
