Summary
Leads after-school enrichment activities like STEAM, coding, or art for youth, designing lessons and collaborating with staff to build skills and confidence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for planning and leading engaging, skill-building activities in areas such as STEAM, literacy, sports, art, dance, coding, or martial arts. Activity Specialists collaborate with Group Leaders and Youth Workers to deliver high-quality instruction. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide specialized instruction in STEAM, Literacy, organized sports, art, photography, cartooning, dance, coding or martial arts
- Collaborate with Group Leaders and Youth Workers to effectively implement the relevant program component
- Create and implement lesson plans/curriculum framework and pacing calendar for activity that is based on outcomes
- Be prepared to put together a performance piece or portfolio of the youths’ work for showcases and celebrations
- Help youth to develop healthy self-esteem, decision-making skills, respect, & discipline
- Participate in in one-hour training requirement covering mental health awareness, engagement and de-escalation, crisis response protocols and mental health resources

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalency required
- Professionals in their field or college or graduate student working towards such specialization, preferred
- Two years’ experience in the specific activity area of instruction
