Adaptive Class Instructor

Description: Adaptive class instructors implement all components of the adaptive program including musical theatre, choir, and performing arts. They will develop and teach class curriculum appropriate for members with developmental, cognitive, and physical diverse abilities.

  • Adaptive class instructors contribute ideas, skills and talents to program development and enhancement according to the program participants’ interests. They must be alert and sensitive to the individual needs of the members. As appropriate, adaptive class instructors the modify program curriculum based on the abilities of each member under the supervision of the performing arts director.
  • Adaptive class instructors use best practices for individual and group engagement and behavior redirection and report member behavior issues to the performing arts director.
  • Adaptive class instructors must observe and monitor social and physical interactions between program participants, follow modification techniques, encourage, and positively reinforce appropriate social behaviors and communications. They must relate to the program participants with respect, love, kindness, and concern to build a healthy self- image.
  • Adaptive class instructors maintain cleanliness and functionality of the class facility and any equipment. They will work with the performing arts director to purchase program supplies or equipment while staying within the departmental budget.
  • Adaptive class instructors teach teens and adults ranging in age from 16 to 80 years old the basics of musical theatre, choir, and performing arts routines.
  • All sports instructors assist in the success of all sports program duties such as fundraising, special events, and marketing.
  • All sports instructors ensure the safety of all program participants.
  • Hours: Part-time, non-exempt
    • Must be available on Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, more classes may be added with experience and program growth
  • Wage: $18.00 per hour
  • Worksite: Anaheim Downtown Youth Center, Anaheim Downtown Community Center, West Anaheim Youth Center, and Anaheim Family YMCA Administration Office
