Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a Bay Area nonprofit organization serving individuals with special needs and their families.
Our Adaptive Skills Training (AST) Program provides individualized services to adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program focuses on enhancing skills, addressing skill deficits, and promoting independence, social participation, community integration, and self-determination.
Position Summary
FCSN is seeking an experienced and compassionate BCBA to provide behavioral consultation, clinical support, staff training, and program development within the AST program.
The BCBA will collaborate with AST leadership, staff, participants, families, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement evidence-based behavioral and skill-building strategies that promote independence, communication, emotional regulation, safety, and meaningful participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct or participate in Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and behavioral observations.
- Develop, review, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavior support strategies.
- Apply ABA principles to support skill acquisition, behavior reduction, functional communication, and emotional regulation.
- Develop individualized strategies for adaptive, social, communication, community, and daily living skills.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to AST staff.
- Monitor behavioral and skill-acquisition data and make data-informed recommendations.
- Review documentation and assist with ISP progress reports and behavioral summaries.
- Participate in ISP meetings, parent meetings, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Collaborate with families, Regional Center representatives, and other service providers as appropriate.
- Promote participant dignity, rights, choice, independence, and least-restrictive approaches.
- Support staff in implementing safety, crisis prevention, and de-escalation strategies.
- Participate in program development, quality improvement, and staff training.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, DDS, CDSS, Title 17, Title 22, BACB ethical standards, and FCSN policies.
- Provide support to other FCSN departments and programs as needed, including consultation, staff training, behavioral support, and other professional assistance within the scope of the BCBA’s expertise and organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Current BCBA certification in good standing.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Experience with FBAs, BIPs, ABA, positive behavior support, and skill acquisition.
- Strong communication, organization, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and coach direct support professionals.
- Experience working with adults with I/DD and California Regional Center-funded services preferred.
- Bilingual skills, particularly Mandarin or Cantonese, preferred.
Certifications & Requirements
- Current BCBA certification.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- CPI or equivalent crisis prevention/de-escalation training, as required.
- DOJ/CDSS fingerprint clearance, health screening, and TB testing.
- Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record if transportation is required.

- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and assist with participant transfers, mobility support, personal care, and hygiene tasks.
- Ability to push a manual wheelchair for participants who require mobility assistance during facility activities, community outings, and transportation as assigned.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted on a regular basis.
- Ability to operate electronic devices, including tablets and computers, for documentation and communication purposes.
- Ability to drive and transport participants in personal or company vehicles during community outings, field trips, and other program activities; a personal vehicle with valid registration and current automobile insurance is required when transporting participants.
- Must be available for varied assignments across program, community, and home-based settings as operational needs require.
Company-Wide Hiring Requirements
- Must pass CDSS and DOJ fingerprint-based background clearance prior to employment
- Must pass a health screening and TB test prior to employment
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record
- Obtain valid CPR and First Aid Certificate within one month of employment (employer-covered)
- Use of mask when recommended/required by the local Public Health Department.
