Position Summary:

The Surveying Laboratory is a hands-on course that requires direct student supervision, equipment demonstrations, field instruction, and guidance during surveying exercises. Due to the practical nature of the laboratory, adequate instructional coverage is essential to ensure that students receive appropriate training in the use of surveying instruments, field procedures, data collection, measurement techniques, and surveying software. CE 200A

Essential Functions:

• Provide instruction and hands-on laboratory training in fundamental surveying principles, methods, and field procedures.

• An adjunct faculty member with professional surveying and/or civil engineering experience will provide the specialized expertise and hands-on supervision necessary to effectively deliver the laboratory component of the course.

• The instructor will assist students with laboratory exercises, field measurements, equipment operation, data analysis, and interpretation of surveying results while ensuring that laboratory activities are conducted safely and effectively.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications:

• Educational Qualification: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

• Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching, instructing, or assisting with undergraduate civil engineering courses or laboratory sessions.

• Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of fundamental civil engineering principles relevant to the laboratory, including appropriate laboratory methods, testing procedures, equipment, and safety practices.

• Laboratory Experience: Practical experience with civil engineering laboratory equipment, instrumentation, experimental procedures, and data collection/analysis relevant to the course.

• Safety: Knowledge of and ability to enforce laboratory health and safety procedures, including proper handling and use of equipment and materials.

• Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain technical concepts, laboratory procedures, and experimental results to undergraduate students.

• Student Support: Ability to supervise students during laboratory activities, answer technical questions, and provide appropriate instructional guidance.

• Professional Qualifications: Engineering-related professional, industry, research, or laboratory experience is desirable and may be considered an additional qualification.

Compensation:

• $2,668 per contact hour

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Period Activity Grade

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
