Description

Overview

AARP’s Legal Counsel for the Elderly champions the dignity and rights of vulnerable Washington, D.C. seniors 60-plus, providing free legal and social work services to those in need — empowering, defending, protecting, and helping thousands of clients each year in many areas of civil law.

The Advocacy Attorney is a driving force behind Legal Counsel for the Elderly’s policy and advocacy work in the District of Columbia, championing legislative and regulatory solutions that improve the lives of older adults. The Attorney cultivates strong relationships with D.C. Councilmembers, helping policymakers understand the challenges facing seniors and the policies needed to address them. Through legislative monitoring, strategic advocacy, and engagement in the rulemaking process, the Advocacy Attorney turns LCE’s priorities into action and advances systemic change that helps low-income older adults live with dignity, independence, and self-determination.
