After School Science Instructor

We are seeking a Science Instructor for our growing afterschool programs! This position offers the opportunity to inspire Nursery through 5th Grade students through engaging, hands-on science experiments and STEM activities. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about science, enjoy working with children, and can foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in a fun and supportive classroom environment.

Our Science Instructors bring learning to life through exciting experiments, engineering challenges, and interactive lessons that encourage students to ask questions, think like scientists, and discover the world around them.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively engage and motivate students during science lessons and activities.
  • Implement our hands-on science curriculum through engaging experiments and STEM projects.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment by following proper procedures during all science activities and experiments.
  • Collaborate with the admin to manage student progress and behavioral expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program-related matters.
  • Utilize company-wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (e.g., taking attendance, submitting incident reports as needed, etc.).
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials and science supplies.
  • Foster a vibrant, inclusive, and fun learning environment by consistently offering a positive and enthusiastic approach to teaching.

This is you:

  • Experience working with students, preferably nursery & elementary age.
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must!
  • Ability to clearly communicate rules and expectations to children is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are highly valued.
  • A high level of professionalism and motivation is expected.
  • A neat and professional appearance is appreciated.
  • Passion for science, STEM, and hands-on learning.

The Schedule:

  • Primary teaching days are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons in New York, NY.
  • Additional teaching opportunities available on Monday afternoons at our Brunswick School location in Jersey City.
  • Program hours are generally 3 hours, depending on the school and schedule.
  • The season begins in September 2026. We are looking for candidates who can commit through the full 2026 to 2027 school year.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or graduated from a Bachelor's program in Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching science, STEM, robotics, engineering, coding, or other enrichment programs.
  • At least one year of teaching experience, preferably with elementary-aged students.
  • Experience leading hands-on science experiments or project-based learning.
