BACKGROUND: YMCA of Sumter serves approximately 8,500 youth, adults and families with programs and membership housed in an 85,000 sq foot facility with two in-door pools, out-door splash pad, two gyms, a four-room youth center with private entrance, separate youth and adult locker rooms, MX4 training room, in-door running track, cycling studio, oversized group exercise studio, state-of-the art 10,000+ sq ft fitness and wellness center in addition to a 55-acre outdoor waterfront day camp and gymnastics facility.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, afterschool counselors will provide direction and supervision of children in an off-site Y-Club Afterschool program. Counselors will manage groups of children ages 4-12 and lead club activities including group games, art/stem time, physical activity, swimming, and play. Counselors will uphold the standard of ensuring that all programs operate in a quality manner consistent with the Y-Club Afterschool model, Y mission, cause and values. Counselors participate in both indoor and outdoor activities year-round and act as positive role models for youth. Additional hours scheduled for early release days, holiday camps, Kid’s Day Outs, Parent’s Night Out and extended care.
