What does an Afterschool Inclusion Leader do?
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Afterschool Inclusion Leader is responsible for assisting in the planning, supervision, and overall facilitation of the afterschool recreation program for children with special needs and/or disabilities in grades K-8th. The Afterschool Inclusion Leader is responsible assistance with program development, delivery, administration, and evaluation of the afterschool program, in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the State of California, Local School Districts, and the Channel Islands YMCA.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to participants with special needs to promote successful inclusion in YMCA programs and activities
- Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of participants, including assisting with personal care needs such as restroom support, feeding, and medication administration, as authorized and required
- Implement individualized behavior support strategies that encourage positive participation, engagement, and integration into YMCA programming
- Maintain continuous supervision of assigned participants while serving as a positive role model and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment
- Assist in planning and facilitating activities, academic enrichment opportunities, games, crafts, and other program components in collaboration with YMCA staff
- Create and support an age-appropriate, adaptive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes creativity, independence, and individual growth
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents regarding participant progress, integration, behavior, and care needs
- Share resources, accommodations, and effective support strategies with coworkers to enhance participant success and strengthen inclusive practices throughout the program
- Complete and maintain accurate participant records, documentation, and service logs in compliance with YMCA policies, program requirements, and accountability standards
- Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all children and families
