Visiting Agronomist

Job Description

City Greens is a fast-growing AgriTech startup building automation and AI-driven solutions for Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). We work with modern farms, growers, and institutions to help them improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability through technology.

We are looking for a Visiting Agronomist to be the on-ground technical backbone of our client farms. You will be on the CityGreens payroll and deputed at a client site, owning crop performance day to day, backed by our senior agronomy team.

This is a career-building, pan-India role. Each deputation typically runs 6 to 12 months or longer, and over the next 2–5 years you will gain exposure to different technologies, crops, and client sites across the country.

You will begin with a 4 to 8 week training program at our AgriTech facility in Ahmedabad, on CityGreens' crops, systems, and protocols, before your first deputation.

As a Visiting Agronomist, you will:

  • Look after crop health and agronomy day to day at your deputed client farm
  • Conduct crop health assessments, troubleshooting, and intervention planning
  • Execute the crop plan and agronomy protocols set by the CityGreens senior team, and escalate technical decisions to them
  • Train and upskill client farm teams on CEA crop management best practices
  • Feed field learnings back into CityGreens' internal agronomy and tech systems
  • Work with farm management software, IoT/sensor data, and yield/input tracking

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on agronomy experience in the field
  • Working knowledge of one or more of: protected cultivation (polyhouse/greenhouse), hydroponics or aeroponics, high-value horticulture
  • Diagnostic ability — identifying and resolving crop health, nutrition, and environmental issues in controlled-environment settings
  • Comfortable working with data — farm management software, IoT/sensor outputs, yield and input tracking
  • Willingness to be deputed and relocate to client sites across India for extended periods (6–12 months or longer) — non-negotiable
  • Willing to attend the initial 4–8 week training in Ahmedabad

Benefits

  • Salary by experience band:
    • 1 year+ : ₹30,000 – ₹35,000/month
    • 2 years+ : ₹35,000 – ₹40,000/month
    • 3 years+ : ₹40,000 – ₹50,000/month
    • 4 years+ : ₹50,000 – ₹60,000/month
    • 5 years+ : ₹60,000+/month
  • PF
  • Health Insurance coverage
  • Company-provided accommodation at the deputed client site
  • Structured training and continuous support from CityGreens' senior agronomy team
  • Pan-India exposure to India's most innovative CEA farms, across diverse geographies, crop systems, and technologies
  • A high-impact role in a fast-growing AgriTech team
