AI and Business Systems Engineer
Summary
Builds and maintains an education company's internal AI agents and business systems in Hong Kong: designing LLM agents with RAG and tool calling, developing and integrating internal applications and automations, and providing everyday IT support to colleagues. Onsite in Mong Kok.
About the Role
We are seeking an AI and Business Systems Engineer whose primary focus is to build the company's internal AI agents, develop and maintain business systems, and deliver practical IT solutions. You will take responsibility for understanding requirements, implementing features, testing and deploying reliable solutions. You will also help colleagues resolve everyday IT issues as they arise. Candidates from any industry with comparable hands-on experience are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Internal AI Agent Development
Design, build, deploy and maintain internal AI agents for company use. Connect internal knowledge, business systems and approved tools or APIs so agents can perform defined tasks. Configure workflows, permissions and human approval where needed, and improve reliability, output quality and running costs.
System Development
Translate business requirements into working applications, automations and system features. Develop and configure suitable solutions, review implementation quality, test functionality and deploy systems that colleagues can use. Select development tools and approaches appropriate to each project.
System Maintenance and Improvement
Investigate defects, modify existing code and improve system functionality and reliability. Diagnose underlying issues, verify proposed fixes and test changes before release. Maintain documentation, version history, access controls and appropriate backup and recovery procedures.
IT Solutions and Integration
Assess IT requests and deliver suitable solutions through application development, configuration, scripting or integration. Connect applications and data sources, automate repetitive work and resolve technical issues. Select tools according to business needs, reliability, cost and maintenance requirements.
Requirements and User Adoption
Clarify needs with colleagues, agree priorities and communicate progress. Explain how agents and systems should be used, document essential procedures and limitations, and improve solutions based on user feedback.
Daily IT Support
Help colleagues with everyday computer, software, email, account and basic connectivity problems as they arise. Troubleshoot common issues and coordinate specialist support with external providers when required. Balance support requests with planned agent and system development work.
Requirements
· A qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience supported by a portfolio.
· Hands-on experience building, deploying and maintaining AI agents for practical use, including connecting knowledge sources and tools or APIs and implementing workflows that complete defined tasks.
· Practical ability in at least one programming or scripting language. Ability to read, review, debug and maintain code, test changes and deploy working solutions.
· Working knowledge of large language models, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool calling and workflow state. Ability to evaluate outputs, handle failures and apply suitable permissions and human approval controls.
· Working knowledge of APIs, databases, authentication and access permissions, with the ability to troubleshoot integrations between business applications.
· Basic knowledge of information and network security, including account management, least-privilege access, protection of confidential and personal data, secure handling of passwords and API keys, firewalls, secure Wi-Fi, VPNs, security updates and phishing awareness. Ability to apply appropriate data access and tool permissions to business systems and AI agents.
· Hands-on experience developing, extending or maintaining working systems. Ability to translate requirements into technical tasks, understand existing applications, validate results and resolve implementation issues.
· Practical knowledge of common desktop environments, productivity software, email and basic networking, with the ability to troubleshoot issues and support colleagues.
· Ability to work independently, balance project work with support requests and explain technical matters clearly. Good Chinese communication skills and English technical reading and writing.
Nice to Have
· Experience delivering internal agents or business systems used regularly by colleagues, including user onboarding and ongoing support.
· Experience with workflow automation, low-code or no-code platforms, web applications or cloud productivity tools.
· Experience managing internal knowledge bases, document ingestion and search quality for AI applications.
· Experience setting up repeatable agent evaluations, execution monitoring, user feedback and cost tracking.
· Familiarity with version control, automated testing, cloud or web hosting and deployment tools.
· Experience with data processing, reporting automation or integrating multiple business systems.
