AI and Data Engineer
Summary
Builds data-driven applications on the Palantir platform (Workshop, Ontology, AIP) for US federal government clients, prototyping with end users and integrating AI/LLM models, custom TypeScript/React widgets, and data pipelines. Onsite in Tampa, FL with an active TS/SCI clearance required.
We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to work directly with users, technical teams, and mission/business stakeholders to rapidly design, prototype, and deploy data-driven applications. This role is ideal for a Data Scientist who enjoys operating at the intersection of software engineering, data, application development, and customer requirements. The candidate will translate operational challenges and loosely defined requirements into functional Palantir solutions, rapidly prototype concepts with end users, and iteratively mature successful prototypes into scalable applications. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience developing applications within large platform development with experience using Workshop, Ontology, Objects, Models, and Custom Widgets.
Key Responsibilities
Data Scientist/Palantir Engineer will:
- Partner directly with end users, product owners, analysts, and technical stakeholders to understand mission and business challenges and translate them into technical requirements.
- Build intuitive user experiences that allow operational users to interact with complex data without requiring deep technical knowledge.
- Develop and configure Ontology Objects, Object Types, Properties, Relationships, Actions, and associated application logic.
- Develop solutions leveraging Palantir’s Envision Ontology to represent operational entities, relationships, workflows, and business processes.
- Configure and integrate models and model outputs into user-facing applications and workflows.
- Develop and integrate Custom Widgets when native application components do not fully satisfy user or mission requirements.
- Rapidly develop proofs of concept (POCs), minimum viable products (MVPs), and prototypes to validate requirements and demonstrate potential solutions.
- Conduct iterative development sessions with users, gathering feedback and quickly incorporating changes into application designs.
- Translate ambiguous or evolving stakeholder requirements into clearly defined technical solutions.
- Work with data engineers and platform teams to connect application functionality with underlying datasets, pipelines, Ontology Objects, models, APIs, and services.
- Troubleshoot application, Ontology, data, and integration issues across environments like Palantir, Databricks, etc.
- Participate in solution demonstrations, design sessions, technical reviews, and user acceptance testing. • Document solution architecture, application configurations, Ontology designs, requirements, workflows, and technical decisions.
- Support deployment and transition of successful prototypes into operational or production environments.
- Follow established development, configuration management, testing, security, and release-management practices.
Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Palantir AIP and AI-enabled application development.
- AIP Logic or AI-assisted workflows.
- Large language models (LLMs), RAG, or AI-enabled applications.
- API and external-system integrations.
- Advanced Ontology modeling.
- TypeScript/React-based Custom Widget development.
- Data pipeline development or transformation.
- Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Jira, Git, or similar development-management tools.
- Government, defense, intelligence, logistics, workforce, financial, or other mission-oriented data environments.
