AI & Backend Engineer

Summary

Clera is hiring a full-stack engineer to build AI-powered customer support agents for B2B companies. The role involves designing end-to-end features using Next.js, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI, while integrating LLMs and agentic workflows into production systems.

About the Role

This is a full-stack engineering role sitting at the intersection of product and AI, on a small, fast-moving team building intelligent customer support agents for B2B companies. You'll own features end-to-end — from architecture to production — and directly shape how AI-powered systems evolve to handle complex, technical support workflows at scale.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement full-stack product features across the entire codebase.

  • Build and improve AI capabilities, including LLM pipelines, agent logic, and prompt engineering.

  • Collaborate with the team to plan, design, and ship new features iteratively.

  • Help make internal processes AI-native by identifying and applying agentic tooling where it adds value.

What We're Looking For

  • 1–4 years of experience in backend or AI engineering (new grads with strong fundamentals are welcome).

  • Proven track record shipping backend systems or AI features to production.

  • Hands-on experience integrating OpenAI models and engineering prompts for real-world tasks.

  • Experience designing end-to-end architectures and building AI-powered data or model pipelines.

  • Proficiency with Next.js, React, and TypeScript for full-stack development.

  • Familiarity with Python and FastAPI on the backend.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Firestore (GCP).

  • Comfortable deploying and operating applications with Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Active, heavy user of AI coding agents (e.g., Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor) with genuine ideas or demonstrated improvements to your own agentic dev setup.

  • Personal hobby projects or self-directed exploration involving LLMs or related AI topics.

Location

On-site, 5 days a week in Munich, Germany. Visa sponsorship is available.
