AI & Backend Engineer
Summary
Build and ship AI-powered backend features and LLM pipelines for a B2B SaaS support agent, using Python, FastAPI, OpenAI models, and cloud infra.
About the Role
We're a seed-stage B2B SaaS company building an AI-powered support agent designed for technical, complex customer service workflows. Our product helps B2B teams auto-resolve difficult support tickets, equips human agents with AI-driven context and suggestions, and bridges the gap between support and engineering — all within a secure, compliance-first architecture.
We're looking for an AI & Backend Engineer to join our small, high-velocity team. You'll own end-to-end features across the full stack, shape AI-powered capabilities, and help scale the architectures that power our agents. This is a high-impact role at an early stage where your work will directly define the product.
Tech stack: Python, FastAPI, OpenAI models (GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, o3, o4-mini), Next.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Firestore (GCP), Docker, Kubernetes.
What You'll Do
Design and implement full-stack product features from concept to production.
Develop and enhance AI features, including LLM pipelines, prompt engineering, and agent architectures.
Collaborate with the team to plan, design, and ship new capabilities at pace.
Help make internal workflows AI-native — actively experimenting with AI coding agents and tooling to improve team productivity.
What We're Looking For
Must-haves:
1–4 years of experience in backend or AI engineering (new graduates with strong AI project experience are welcome).
Demonstrated ability to build and ship backend systems or AI pipelines to production.
Hands-on experience integrating OpenAI models and crafting effective prompts.
At least some experience working with AI agents (e.g. autonomous task agents, LLM-powered workflows).
Experience designing end-to-end architectures and building AI-powered data or model pipelines.
Proficiency with Next.js, React, and TypeScript for full-stack development.
Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Firestore (GCP).
Experience deploying and operating applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
Hobby projects involving LLMs or related AI topics — we want to see genuine curiosity and self-driven exploration.
Eligibility to work in Germany (visa sponsorship is available).
Availability to work on-site in Munich, 5 days a week.
Nice to have:
Heavy user of AI coding agents such as Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor — with concrete learnings or ideas about improving AI-assisted development setups.
Background in B2B SaaS, customer support tooling, or developer tooling.
Experience in a fast-paced startup environment (comparable to companies like Sierra, Intercom, Freshworks, Forethought, or similar).
Location
This role is fully on-site in Munich, Germany, 5 days per week. Visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates.
