AI Engineer for internal AI Centre of Excellence
As we partner with a diverse array of Danish companies operating on a global scale, we navigate industries that must adhere to stringent laws and financial controls, all while delivering exceptional service levels. With over 1,500 dedicated colleagues across Denmark, The Czech Republic, and The Philippines, Aeven is not just a workplace — it's a community united by a common goal: to drive innovation and operational excellence. In Denmark, we boast four state-of-the-art data center facilities, allowing us to leverage advanced technologies and provide robust solutions tailored to our clients' needs.
If you’re looking to make an impact in a dynamic environment that values expertise and collaboration, we invite you to explore joining our team at Aeven!
About the role
Aeven is currently building a controlled AI platform: a gateway for models and tools, reference RAG and MCP patterns others can reuse, and an organization that builds on that foundation. In this role you will own that technical path from first production platform work to enablement at scale. You will also function as the technical lead for the Aeven AI Gateway and for the first reference RAG pipelines and MCP integrations. You will build and harden shared platform capabilities, then shift toward enabling other teams to adopt them. Production day-to-day operations for the gateway will be run with skilled-up colleagues in the wider organization; you design for that handoff. We offer ownership of a company-wide AI control plane; path from builder to technical enabler, and exposure to on-prem and cloud LLM stacks.
Responsibilities:
- Own the technical direction and delivery of the AI Gateway, including routing, keys and budgets, guardrails, auditability, and OpenAI-compatible upstreams such as on-premises models.
- Design and ship the first reference RAG pipelines, covering ingestion, retrieval, access-control-aware patterns, and basic evaluation.
- Deliver the first MCP and tool integrations as reusable patterns rather than one off applications.
- Partner with Security and platform and network teams on identity, data classification, and production readiness.
- Write clear runbooks and interfaces so gateway operations can be owned by upskilled teams across the organization rather than requiring a 24/7 CoE pager role.
- After the first gold paths are established, prioritize enablement through templates, review gates, office hours, and pairing with line-of-business engineers.
- Challenge “build it for us” requests; default to platform capabilities and reusable patterns unless the Head of AI sponsors a time-boxed proof of concept, typically four to six weeks.
- Contribute estimates and technical options to the CoE backlog maintained with the AI Operating Lead.
Requirements:
You care about production systems and operator impact. You ship scalable building blocks and teach others to use them.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- At least five years of software engineering experience with production ownership.
- Strong Python and/or TypeScript skills, including APIs and system integration.
- Hands-on LLM application experience, including tool calling, orchestration, and an evaluation mindset.
- Knowledge of RAG patterns, including chunking, embeddings, vector stores, grounding, and access-control awareness.
- Experience with API gateways, reverse proxies, or LLM gateways such as LiteLLM or an equivalent platform.
- Cloud literacy, preferably with Azure, and confidence working with Linux and containers.
- Clear written and spoken English for design documentation and stakeholder collaboration.
- Evidence of mentoring or enabling other engineers through reviews, templates, guilds, or pairing.
Good-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with MCP or a similar tool protocol.
- Knowledge of Entra ID and enterprise authentication.
- Experience with observability, including metrics, tracing, and token and cost visibility.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or hybrid on-premises GPU inference.
- Experience in regulated industries such as finance, life sciences, or the public sector.
- Experience with vector databases or pgvector-style stores and document pipelines over enterprise knowledge bases.
