AI Engineer - Technology Risk - Consulting - Hong Kong
DarkLab Operations is a growing cybersecurity services firm delivering managed defence, advisory, and technology solutions to enterprise clients. We are seeking a Senior Engineer with strong foundations in software development and a working knowledge of emerging technologies to help build and evolve our internal platforms and client-facing tooling.
ROLE PURPOSE
You will contribute to the design and development of systems that support DarkLab's service delivery operations. A key strength we value is the ability to bridge requirements and implementation — understanding what the business needs and translating that into reliable, well-structured software. The ideal candidate has worked across multiple stages of the software delivery lifecycle and can operate effectively in both structured team environments and more autonomous settings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, and maintain software systems and automation tools that support internal operations and client service delivery
Leverage modern development approaches — including AI-assisted coding — to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and reliability
Work with internal stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, translating operational needs into clear technical specifications
Architect and manage data flows, ensuring clean data structures and appropriate handling of structured and unstructured information
Collaborate with consultants and analysts to understand domain context and reflect it accurately in the systems you build
Evaluate and integrate relevant third‑party tools, APIs, and platforms into the engineering stack
Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and engineering standards within a small, high‑ownership team
Stay current on relevant technology developments and assess their applicability to the team's work
REQUIREMENTS
10+ years of hands‑on software development experience, with strong command of data structures, algorithms, and system design
Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Python, Node.js, or equivalent) and comfort working across the stack
Demonstrated ability to pick up and apply new technologies quickly, including AI-assisted development tooling
Strong understanding of the software delivery lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment
Experience working within structured teams — with awareness of how product, analysis, and engineering roles interact
Preferred Background (any of the following)
Prior roles as: Software Developer / Analyst Programmer, Systems Analyst, Product Manager, or Business Analyst in a technical environment
Experience in cybersecurity or adjacent domains — log management, security tooling integration, compliance automation, or similar
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), container orchestration, and API design
Exposure to security frameworks or standards sufficient to engage meaningfully with domain specialists
Mobile or full‑stack development experience (Swift/SwiftUI, React, or similar) is a plus
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
End-to-end ownership mindset: comfortable taking a vague problem statement all the way to deployed, working software
Intellectually curious — actively follows technology developments and applies relevant advances to real problems
Pragmatic about when to move fast and when to be rigorous
Clear communicator: can explain technical decisions to non‑technical stakeholders without losing precision
Thrives in a small, high‑trust team where autonomy is real and impact is visible
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
Internal platforms and tooling that support cybersecurity service delivery at scale
Automation systems that improve the speed and consistency of operational workflows
Data pipelines and structured information management for operational and analytical use
Integration projects connecting third‑party security and productivity tools
Greenfield development opportunities in a team that values engineering craft
