AI in Bioscience Faculty Positions

The Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) seeks outstanding candidates for faculty positions in AI in Bioscience, a rapidly evolving frontier that is transforming how biological and biomedical research is conducted. The Division is actively investing in this strategic area to drive next‑generation discovery through the integration of artificial intelligence, data science, and life sciences. Candidates will have the opportunity to shape emerging directions at the interface of computation and biology, supported by strong institutional commitment and cutting‑edge infrastructure.

Research areas of interest include:

  • Development of novel AI and machine learning methodologies for biological and biomedical discovery
  • Advanced computational approaches for large‑scale multi‑omics data, biological imaging, and systems biology
  • Predictive modelling and data‑driven understanding of complex biological systems and disease mechanisms

The Division is recruiting multiple tenure‑track and tenured faculty members to advance its mission of understanding the mechanisms underlying human health and disease through both basic and translational research. Outstanding candidates at both junior and senior levels will be considered. Successful applicants are expected to establish independent, internationally competitive research programs and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Division of Life Science

The Division of Life Science has established strengths across seven thematic areas: (i) Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders, (ii) Cancer Biology, (iii) Cell Biology and Signaling, (iv) Stem Cell and Developmental Biology, (v) Macromolecular Structure and Function, (vi) Biotechnology and Medicinal Biochemistry, and (vii) Genomics and Epigenomics. These interconnected themes foster extensive cross‑disciplinary collaboration across the life sciences.

Faculty members are internationally recognized, and the Division is supported by world‑class research infrastructure at HKUST, including the Biosciences Central Research Facility, the Biological Cryo‑EM Center, the Laboratory Animal Facility, and a state‑of‑the‑art AI Supercomputing Facility. The Division also offers vibrant postgraduate programmes and strong global and industry partnerships.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree
  • Completion of postdoctoral training
  • Demonstrated potential to lead an independent, externally funded research program
