AI Software Engineer
Summary
Designs and leads AI architecture for enterprise-scale systems, specializing in LLM integrations, RAG workflows, and multi-tenant AI deployments using frameworks like LangChain and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone).
Requirements
Must have:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of software development experience in a relevant language, with hands-on use of modern front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular, plus several backend languages including Python, Java, Node.js, or Go.
- Demonstrated success designing and delivering production-grade applications that use LLMs or AI services at scale.
- Experience working with vector databases such as Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector, along with advanced embedding model tuning in production environments.
- Strong expertise across multiple LLM providers and AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or custom-built solutions.
- Significant experience leading technical teams, driving cross-functional programs, and mentoring engineers.
- Expert-level experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and advanced containerization with EKS.
- Willingness to work from our office in Niskayuna, NY or Cambridge, MA.
- For candidates based in Cambridge, MA, completion of a required three-month hybrid onboarding residency in Niskayuna, NY is required.
- 13+ years of full SDLC experience, including architecture, technical leadership, and large-scale systems optimization, is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise RAG architectures, semantic search optimization, and conversation memory at large scale is preferred.
- Experience with multimodal AI integration, model fine-tuning, and deployment of custom AI models is preferred.
- Experience with AI observability, cost optimization, and performance monitoring at enterprise scale is preferred.
- Experience influencing other teams and shaping technical direction and roadmaps is preferred.
- Experience developing technical strategy and long-range technology roadmaps is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Define the AI architecture and technical direction across our product portfolio.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives with product and data science teams.
- Design RAG and agent-based workflows and improve LLM integrations.
- Build multi-tenant, highly available systems with strong observability.
- Set standards for AI cost control, monitoring, and security.
- Partner with product, data science, and engineering leaders to advance research and product outcomes.
- Mentor teams and help raise our standards in Agile delivery, testing, security, and documentation.

This role is based in Niskayuna, NY or Cambridge, MA, and relocation assistance is available. For Cambridge-based hires, we provide a three-month hybrid onboarding residency in Niskayuna with travel, housing, and a living stipend included.

The posted salary range is $145,400 to $242,500, with possible geographic differential and eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
