AI Solutions Engineer (Client Delivery)
Summary
Forward-deployed full-stack engineer at an early-stage consulting-plus-platform startup in Brisbane: you meet trades and services customers directly, turn their vague problems into custom software, automations and AI agents, then ship, deploy and support what you build. Core stack is TypeScript, relational databases, APIs/webhooks/MCP integrations and heavy AI coding tooling.
ABOUT HITCH
Hitch is a new startup with a tightly interlinked consulting business and product platform. Our mission is to give every business truly custom software and AI so it can build the future it wants.
We started as a consultancy and are building a platform that makes custom software simpler, cheaper and faster to deliver. Traditional SaaS often forces a business to mould itself around generic software. Hitch is working to let businesses build software around the way they actually work.
THE ROLE
We are looking for an AI Solutions Engineer (Client Delivery) to help us deliver for more customers and grow the shared product. This role carries a high level of autonomy, creativity and room for growth. We stay aggressively close to the frontier of software and AI because it changes what we can economically build for customers.
Our current customers are primarily trades and services businesses. Experience with sales, estimating, quoting, customer follow-up, trades or small-business operations is valuable.
This is part software engineer and part forward-deployed role. You will not be handed a fixed product backlog. You will solve real problems as they arise, make judgements about what belongs in the product, and communicate proactively with both technical and completely non-technical people. You will also help customers understand and use the tools you build.
This is a permanent full-time role (38 hours per week), hybrid in Brisbane. You must be based in Brisbane or nearby and able to attend in person in Brisbane.
DAY-TO-DAY
• Meet directly with customers to understand how their business works, where time is being wasted and which problems are worth solving. This includes independent follow-up and sometimes on-site visits.
• Turn vague business problems into concrete software, automation or AI solutions.
• Build and ship full-stack features, internal tools, integrations, automations and AI agents.
• Integrate customer systems through APIs, webhooks, MCPs, databases, email and other existing systems.
• Deploy what you build, observe how it works in the real world, fix issues and iterate from customer feedback.
• Help customers adopt your work: explain it, train them, answer questions and improve the product based on how it is used.
• Decide when a capability belongs in the shared product and when it should remain customer-specific.
• Use AI coding tools heavily while reviewing, understanding and taking responsibility for the software you ship.
• Design and explain database schemas that support scalable, practical solutions.
• Evaluate new AI and software tools for real value, not novelty.
REQUIREMENTS
• Experience creating full-stack apps with TypeScript, relational databases and AI, both to code and in software other people use.
• Strong engineering fundamentals. You should be able to explain async TypeScript, left versus inner joins, structured outputs and database transactions without AI help.
• Examples of automations you have built, personal or professional, and the problem they solved.
• Strong communication with Australian business owners and technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Willingness to learn, admit uncertainty, seek help early and take ownership in a chaotic, fast-moving startup.
• A Computer Science, Software Engineering or related degree, or equivalent experience.
NICE TO HAVE
• Trades or small-business knowledge
• Sales or customer-service experience
• AI agents, tool-calling or MCP
• Startup or small-team work
• Software used by real people
• Messy third-party APIs
• CRM, service-management or accounting-system integrations
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
• Growing steadily more independent with complex end-to-end customer work.
• Building reliable solutions customers use every day and maintaining strong relationships with them.
• Identifying reusable product opportunities and learning real industries so each project improves the next.
You do not need ten years of experience, every framework or previous professional AI experience. You do need engineering fundamentals, evidence that you can build things, and the confidence to turn that into something people use.
