AIR CONDITIONING EQ MECHANIC

Job Summary\: Installs and makes repairs to large air-conditioning refrigeration systems.

Duties and Responsibilities\:

• Diagnoses and locates malfunctions, disassembles, repairs, replaces, and/or adjusts thermostats, pressure stats, humidistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices. Disassembles and repairs compressors and related components, services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers, repacks valves, replaces electric motors, belts, and pulleys, lubricates moving parts, replaces and/or cleans filters, bleeds systems, and replaces refrigerants. Tests for leaks and for excessive load conditions, reconditions, modifies, and fabricates parts.
• Performs the full range of work involved in the installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of industrial and domestic reach-in and walk-in refrigerators, including installing split HVAC systems, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, pre-fabricated boxes, etc., cold storage and cold room equipment, freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units and systems, and related equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Hoist holders and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, where parts of systems worked on are often in hard-to-reach places. Stoops, stretches, bends, and kneels for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and occasionally outdoors, often in cramped and awkward positions. Work is frequently dirty and greasy. Variable temperatures occur when working in cold storage rooms. Workers are subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shocks.
