AirPods Analog Systems Engineer, Power
Summary
Analog Systems Engineer on Apple's AirPods team in Cupertino, owning power and battery management subsystems end to end — from architecture tradeoffs, tolerance analysis, and power/signal-integrity simulation to partnering with silicon vendors on PMIC/charger ICs and hands-on hardware/firmware debug through mass production. Core tech: analog/mixed-signal design and bench validation.
The AirPods team is seeking an Analog Systems Engineer to help drive the design, development, and delivery of our next-generation products. As the power and battery management expert, you will sit at the center of cross-functional collaboration and technical decision-making. You will shape the fundamental power architectures that enable future audio experiences, guiding these critical subsystems from early concept through to final mass production.
In this role, you will own and assist with the end-to-end development of power and battery management subsystems. You will establish the subsystem architecture by performing tradeoff studies, tolerance analysis, simulations for power and signal integrity, and system modeling. Working closely with various cross-functional teams, you will guide component selection, assist with schematic and layout reviews, provide guidance on subsystem HW/FW integration, and define system specifications.
Beyond internal collaboration, you will partner directly with silicon vendors to drive the development, bring-up, and characterization of new PMICs and charger ICs. As designs mature, you will author hardware specifications, evaluate vendor datasheets, and support engineering prototyping. Throughout the development cycle, you will execute hands-on hardware and firmware debug, ultimately driving silicon, system, and manufacturing validation to ensure these subsystems scale successfully and reliably from engineering builds into mass production.
Minimum Qualifications

- Strong analog/mixed-signal analysis: tolerance analysis, simulations for power and signal integrity, timing sequencing, spec compliance, system modeling
- Proficient in bench testing and equipment usage (oscilloscope, power supplies, electronic loads, DMM, etc.) for silicon and system validation
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to drive alignment across hardware, firmware, and silicon teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in designing low-power, high volume consumer products
- Experience leveraging AI tools and automation to accelerate design analysis, simulation, hardware characterization, and validation workflows
- Experience with scripting languages such as Matlab and Python
- Familiarity with SPICE-based simulation tools
- Familiarity with digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, etc.
- Familiarity with the development process of new silicon
