AML Manager, Austria
Description
At bunq, we’re more than a bank. We’re on a mission to make banking work for people wherever they live in Europe. With local IBANs, our users can pay rent, sign up for the gym and get paid like a local from day one. Every successful transaction is a step toward making them feel at home and letting us truly “Make Life Easy.”
Austria is next, and we need someone on the ground to make it happen. As our AML Manager Austria, you’ll be bunq’s accountable local owner of compliance in Austria. You’ll help bring bunq into the market through the EU passporting process, then run AML operations, integrity risk and financial crime reporting for the country. You won’t have a local team. Instead, you’ll build and use AI tools that let one person cover what a traditional bank staffs with a full department.
Think you’re up for the challenge? Join us in making a real impact on users’ lives while scaling AML operations across Europe 🚀
What you’ll own
Lead bunq’s entry into Austria by shaping the local content for the passporting notification to the FMA, including the business plan, organizational and operational setup, localization requirements and timelines, and set up your reporting line into HQ Compliance from day one
Adapt bunq’s AML/CFT framework to Austrian law, own the integrity risk assessment (SIRA) and oversee FIU reporting, using AI-first processes that keep the branch compliant and every filing on time
Be bunq’s trusted contact for the FMA, leading supervisory dialogues, audits and inspections
You live in Austria and are fluent in German and English
Deep, hands-on knowledge of the Austrian AML/CFT framework and FMA requirements, ideally from 7+ years in AML, fraud, KYC or CDD
Experience contributing to a regulatory notification or licensing process, such as EU passporting or a banking/EMI license application
A track record of owning a compliance program end to end and using AI tools to automate the work
Sound regulatory judgment and a feel for balancing risk with the needs of a fast-growing tech company
Nice to have: experience with AML inspections or regulatory audits, or with a role that owned several compliance areas at once.
