AML Senior Analyst

Oversee anti-money laundering checks, client due diligence, and suspicious activity reporting for a fintech firm using compliance tools and regulations.

Sumer’s AML senior manager will support the delivery of the Sumer’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and client due diligence (CDD) framework. The AML Senior Analyst plays a critical role in delivering the AML framework to ensure the detection and prevention of potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. They will take ownership of complex case reviews, carry out client onboarding, support regulatory reporting, and provide training to administrators and other practitioners across Sumer. You will be required to manage
- Conduct client due diligence (CDD) for new and existing clients, using technology to complete electronic verification, adverse media screening and risk assessments.
- Request, review and validate client due diligence documentation, providing guidance to colleagues and clients to resolve any outstanding requirements.
- Research and assess Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), sanctions and other high-risk clients, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Support the management of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), including gathering information, drafting reports and assisting with submissions to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
- Provide timely, practical advice to colleagues on AML and CDD requirements, helping to ensure regulatory compliance across the business.
- Assist in the design and delivery of AML training, promoting awareness of regulatory requirements and best practice across all hubs.
- Foster a strong culture of compliance by supporting continuous improvement, sharing regulatory updates and contributing to the effectiveness of the firm's AML framework.
- Demonstrable experience in AML, financial crime, or a related compliance function
- Proven experience gathering and analysing information relating to SARS and drafting suspicious activity wording
- Solid understanding of global AML laws and regulations (e.g. UK Money Laundering Regulations, FATF standards, SAICA knowledge is desirable)
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Qualifications:
- Professional certification (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of sanctions screening or PEP/adverse media screening tools (eg. Worldcheck, Smartsearch)
