Analyst, Portfolio Construction

Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.

The Analyst, Portfolio Construction, will support the CIB’s portfolio construction process to maximize the impact of the CIB’s investment portfolio. As a key member of the team, responsibilities will include conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, monitoring progress against portfolio allocation, assessing performance of asset classes, as well as producing reporting and analytics to support investment leadership.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical and financial modelling skills, is a strong team player and is excited to engage on a wide variety of strategic topics and functions within the CIB.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support the annual portfolio planning process including long-term portfolio allocation, interim targets and overall constraints and objectives
  • Assess individual investment opportunities against our portfolio objectives, including drafting input for investment memos
  • Monitor performance of current and forecasted portfolio against portfolio targets, including development of quarterly reporting
  • Develop analytical materials to facilitate investment and portfolio strategy discussions amongst the CIB’s management and Board of Directors
  • Lead ad hoc strategic work streams, with support from your manager

The ideal profile:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in investing, risk, corporate strategy, consulting or similar; ideally direct experience in portfolio construction, portfolio management or other strategic functions
  • Undergraduate degree, with an advanced degree (e.g., MBA or similar) preferred
  • Strong business acumen, with demonstrated aptitude for strategic, analytical and critical thinking
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including financial analysis and modelling, policy analysis and market research
  • Strong written and verbal skills, including ability to develop high quality products for senior management such as analytical reports, strategy presentations or similar
  • Bilingualism (English and French), an asset (training can be provided)
