We're proud of the work we do, helping organisations make better use of their data to inform decisions and improve the services they provide.
About the role
We're looking for an experienced Analytics Engineer to join our team, based in either Wellington or Whanganui.
This is a hands-on technical role working with complex datasets, managing and maintaining data pipelines and warehouses, and turning data into useful information for our customers.
You'll work across the Microsoft Azure stack, primarily using Snowflake, Azure SQL Database, Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, alongside other analytics tools and technologies.
Your work will include:
Managing, maintaining and improving data pipelines and warehouse processes
Using SQL to extract, transform and structure large, complex datasets
Automating data ingestion, cleaning and transformation
Investigating data quality issues and ensuring information is accurate and reliable
Working with analysts and software engineers to develop data and reporting solutions
Working directly with clients to understand their information needs and communicate results
About you
Previous or current health sector experience is essential for this role. We'd be particularly interested in hearing from people who have worked with primary care health information, Primary Health Organisations or general practice data.
You'll bring:
At least three years' commercial experience in data engineering, data analysis or a similar role
Strong Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL skills, including data manipulation and stored procedures
Experience working with relational databases, data ingestion, transformation and reporting
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail
The ability to communicate clearly and work confidently with clients and colleagues
A practical, curious approach to learning and working through challenges
Experience with technologies such as Snowflake, Azure SQL, Python, Power BI, DAX or Power Query would also be valuable.
You'll enjoy getting into the detail, questioning results and working through problems. You'll be comfortable taking initiative, while also knowing when to ask questions or draw on the experience of others.
Why join DataCraft?
This is an opportunity to put your technical skills to good use, working with a small, experienced team on projects that have a positive impact.
We take quality seriously, but we're also practical about how we work. We keep meetings to a minimum and focus on productive output, giving our people more time to concentrate on the technical work they enjoy.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape the products and services we deliver.
We offer:
Wellness leave
Funded flu and COVID vaccinations
Public transport and active travel allowances
Physical wellbeing and eye-care allowances
Modern Wellington CBD offices
Sit-stand desks and quality equipment
Free espresso coffee, tea, fruit and biscuits
Regular team lunches and social events
The position can be based in Wellington or Whanganui. Remote working from outside these locations is not available.

If you have experience in the health sector and enjoy the technical challenges of working with complex data, we'd love to hear from you.
Please submit your CV and a covering letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in the position.
