Analytics Engineer

Summary

Analytics Engineer at a defence-software company: owns the SQL data layer end-to-end, builds analytical/dimensional models and BI dashboards for asset tracking, maintenance and readiness data, rotating between a client site (defence customer) and the product engineering team. Core stack is SQL, Python and BI tooling; French, Dutch and English plus security-clearance eligibility are firm requiremen

€63,000–€95,000 gross/year · Hybrid (2 days on-site per week, at client premises or company office; 3 days from home) · Permanent, full-time

The systems that track assets, flag maintenance needs and inform mission readiness do not run on gut feeling, they run on clean data and sharp analysis. As Analytics Engineer you will split your time between being embedded at a defence customer site as part of a structured Forward Deployed Engineer team and contributing to the Product Engineering Team, turning raw operational data into the dashboards and insights that operational teams actually rely on. The rotation structure means you carry real on-site ownership while a full team provides backup and coverage; you are not alone.
  • Own the SQL layer end-to-end, from raw source data through to production-ready models, with performance and maintainability as the standard.
  • Build and maintain analytical and dimensional models that underpin asset tracking, maintenance workflows, readiness reporting and mission planning, datasets that operational teams act on, not prototypes.
  • Author and publish dashboards and views in close cooperation with client stakeholders, translating operational requirements into analytical deliverables that are clear, accurate and fit for a defence environment.
  • Apply Python for data transformation, lightweight analysis and integration glue work, keeping pipelines reliable and documented.
  • Elicit and interpret requirements directly from French- and Dutch-speaking client teams when forward deployed, then translate those needs into concrete analytical outputs.
  • Own testing and technical documentation during on-site rotations, with clean handover to the wider engineering, testing and documentation teams between deployments.

What success looks like
Over time, the client teams you support will reach for your dashboards first because the data behind them is trustworthy and the models are built to last. Requirements you gather on-site translate cleanly into working deliverables. Domain experts recognise that you understood what they needed — not just what they said. The components you build are documented well enough that the wider team can maintain, extend and take them into operational use without relying on your recall.

What you bring
  • Production-grade SQL, complex transformations, modelling and query optimisation, not basic retrieval.
  • Practical Python scripting for ETL, data transformation, analysis and automation; this is not a software engineering role, but the code you write must be clean and maintainable.
  • Analytical and dimensional modelling at mid-to-senior level — this is the core technical differentiator for the role.
  • Dashboard authoring experience in at least one BI or analytical tool; you will work with proprietary tooling here and ramp up on it after joining, so transferable experience is what counts.
  • Consulting and requirements-gathering skills, when forward deployed you are the primary client interface, and the ability to elicit, interpret and translate operational requirements is essential.
  • Professional working proficiency in French, Dutch and English — you will conduct requirements discussions in both French and Dutch and coordinate in English; all three are required for delivery and this is not flexible.
  • Git discipline and comfort working in structured, security-conscious environments with the composure that client-facing work in defence demands.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain the required national or NATO security clearance for this role (we support candidates through the clearance process).
The language requirement and clearance eligibility are firm; for everything else, we consider the overall strength of your experience.

Nice to have
  • Experience working with logistics, maintenance, asset-management or defence-operations data.
  • Prior experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL in a data modelling or transformation context

ILIAS Solutions, part of the Patria Group, builds software that defence organisations use to manage operational readiness, asset tracking, maintenance, mission planning and the data layers beneath them. The work has real consequences, and the people who do it know it.
As Analytics Engineer you will have direct contact with operational outcomes: the dashboards you build are not internal reporting tools — they are the view a team uses to make decisions about equipment and readiness. At the same time, the rotation structure means you are backed by colleagues, technical depth in the wider team, dedicated testing and documentation support outside your on-site periods, and the kind of stability that comes with a permanent role inside an established defence-software group.
If you want data work that is consequential, a client environment that takes precision seriously, and a team structure that supports without micromanaging, this is that role.

What we offer
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Company car
  • Group and health insurance
  • Ambulatory care coverage
  • Meal and eco vouchers
  • Phone, internet, and home office allowances
  • Hybrid working flexibility

Eligibility
Because of the nature of our work, this role may require eligibility under applicable export-control regulations and the ability to obtain national or NATO security clearance. We assess eligibility lawfully and on a role-by-role basis; specific requirements are discussed during the selection process. We do not exclude candidates on the basis of nationality except where mandated by applicable export-control or security-clearance law.
How to apply
Send your application through the vacancy page. Questions before you apply? Reach out to Tim van Dam at tim.van.dam@ilias-solutions.com, happy to tell you more about the role, the forward-deployed structure and what the clearance process involves.
