This role

This role exists to build and own the financial-operations data foundation that PayJoy's business decisions depend on. The FinOps Engineer designs the canonical FinOps data models, unit economics, cost structure, margins, and pricing — that today do not exist in a consolidated form, and takes over the recurring operational load (reporting, reconciliations, and periodic closes) that is currently done manually. By establishing a single source of truth for the company's financial metrics and making the underlying pipelines reliable, tested, and automated, this role gives finance and business leaders trustworthy numbers to set the business baseline, monitor key KPIs, and make decisions and lays the groundwork for forecasting,

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain the canonical FinOps data models (unit economics, cost structure, margins, and pricing) that do not exist today, so the business has consistent, reliable financial metrics to decide from.

  • Establish and document the single source of truth for the business's financial metrics, aligning definitions across teams so everyone reports from the same numbers.

  • Build and maintain data pipelines that integrate the relevant sources (ledger, payments/collections, billing, credit-origination platforms, cloud), so the financial models are fed complete and up-to-date data.

  • Implement data-quality tests and validations at the transaction level before models feed decisions, keeping the numbers behind business decisions trustworthy.

  • Automate the reporting, reconciliations, and FinOps processes that are manual today and own the operational cadence (periodic closes and recurring deliverables), reducing manual work and freeing the team for higher-value analysis.

  • Build, maintain, and evolve the metrics dashboards for stakeholders and handle ad-hoc data and financial-analysis requests from the areas that depend on FinOps.

  • Establish the business baseline and its ETA, define and monitor the key financial KPIs, and provide data support to forecasting, budgeting, and projection exercises.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, data, finance/accounting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Language and level of proficiency: advanced English.

  • Software and technical skills: advanced SQL and Python; analytical databases / data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery); ELT/ETL pipelines, incremental models, and historical loads.

  • Specialized knowledge: accounting/finance fundamentals (double-entry, clearing, reconciliation, accruals) and BI dashboard design and maintenance.

  • Experience: <=3 years in data / analytics engineering, ideally working with financial data.

Benefits

  • Local benefits depending on the country of hire
  • Company-funded health insurance for employee and immediate family
  • Company-funded employee life and disability insurance
  • Paid vacation days, unlimited sick leave
  • $2,000 USD annual Co-working Travel perk
  • $2,000 USD annual Professional Development perk
  • Phone finance, headphone benefit, home office equipment allowance and wellness perks
  • Catered lunches
