Android Application Developer
Summary
Build and maintain a native Android employee app in Kotlin/Jetpack Compose that handles payslips, leave, attendance and notifications across a wide range of Indonesian devices and OS versions.
Owns the Android employee application. In the Indonesian workforce context Android is the majority platform and typically spans a far wider device and OS range than iOS, this role carries the heavier compatibility burden and reaches the larger share of employee population.
Key Responsibilities
Android Application Development
- Design, build and maintain the native Android application using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Implement employee self-service features: payslip, leave, attendance, personal data and notifications.
- Build offline-capable behaviour with reliable synchronisation, recognising that connectivity across the employee population is inconsistent.
- Implement device-native capability: biometric authentication, encrypted local storage, camera, location services and push notification.
Compatibility, Quality & Release
- Maintain compatibility across the wide Android device, OEM and OS-version range present in the workforce, including lower-specification and older devices.
- Own the Google Play release process including staged rollout, and manage Play Store policy compliance.
- Implement mobile security appropriate to payroll and personal data: certificate pinning, encrypted storage, root detection and session handling.
- Write and maintain automated tests and monitor crash and ANR reporting.
Collaboration
- Work with the UI/UX Designer to adapt designs to Material Design without losing design intent.
- Work with the Senior Software Engineer on API versioning, given the long tail of un-updated installed clients.
- Coordinate with the iOS Developer to maintain feature parity and consistent behaviour.
Requirements — Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent practical background.
- Minimum 4 years native Android development experience with applications published to Google Play.
- Strong Kotlin proficiency; working knowledge of Jetpack Compose and the Android Jetpack component set.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a wide device and OS-version range, including low-specification devices.
- Experience with offline-first architecture and data synchronisation.
- Experience implementing biometric authentication and encrypted local storage.
- Experience owning the Google Play release and staged rollout process.
- Automated testing and crash/ANR monitoring as routine practice.
- Professional English; fluent Bahasa Indonesia.
Requirements — Preferred
- Experience with enterprise or managed-distribution applications (Android Enterprise, MDM).
- Experience with applications handling financial or payroll data.
- Familiarity with mobile CI/CD (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions).
- Experience optimising for low-end devices and constrained bandwidth.
- Cross-platform capability as a secondary skill.
- Published apps with substantial active user bases.
